SAIA Accredited Category One CPD Activity
SANS 10400-XA/204 Energy Efficiency Workshop, including Fenestration Calculations
SANS 10400XA became a Compulsory Standard for building design in September 2011, with only a two-month “adaptation period” being allowed. SANS 10400XA itself sets out certain prescriptive standards, and in other instances, it requires us to comply with the Building Practices set out in SANS 204.
The full prospectus of the one-day workshops to be presented is listed at the end of this notice; however, the core activity will be the
fenestration calculations. These will be taught in an easy-to-understand, step-by-step procedure. Pro-formae and written guidelines will be provided.
The objective of this course is not just to teach the Architectural Professional how to do calculations, but to reduce the time spent to about an hour per floor for most buildings
The event will be presented by Peter Wyness, BSc, Professional Architectural Technologist. The lectures are well known in South African Architectural circles for offering patient explaining and teaching, as well as expertise on SANS 204.
Because this is an interactive course, with the clear objective that every delegate will leave with a clear understanding of the subject matter, attendance is limited to 30 delegates per course.
The workshop has been validated by the SA Institute of Architects, and will earn 1.5 Category One CPD credits, and is recognised by the National Regulator of Compulsory Standards as suitable training for Competent Persons as required in SANS 10400-XA, 4.2.1(b)
Course Requirements:
It is essential that delegates bring the following items to the presentation:
- A pocket calculator
- Delegate’s SACAP Registration Number
- A copy of SANS 204:2011 Edition 1 – or –
- Copies of the following pages of SANS 204; 2011 Edition 1: Pages 3 to 14; 18 to 24; 30; 31; 38 to 43; 58 to 61.
- A copy of SANS 10400XA is helpful, but is necessary only for the Compulsory Reading task, which needs to be done prior to the course.
Compulsory Reading
Because this course is now recognised by the NRCS, delegates will be required to read and understand the following sections of SANS 10400-XA and SANS 204. A declaration is required by the NRCS, from each delegate, that he/she has read and understood the prescribed parts (which really are very simple). In addition, an uncomplicated, open-book exam, will be set.
