BELLEVUE HEIGHTS

48 Bellevue Rd, Musgrave, Berea, South Africa
Due to the absence of access-ways, the two-bedroomed simplex units of this block are both private and north-orientated, advantages achieved by having direct access off the stair and elevator landings. As a result of a temporary dearth of bricks at the time of building, reinforced concrete cross-wall construction made its Durban debut in Bellevue Heights, in which horizontality, most marked in the ribbon windows and rectilinear geometry, predominate, with the cylindrical forms of the stair shafts providing contrasting elements.
