HOUSE KENTRIDGE

109 Princess Alice Avenue, Glenwood, Durban, South Africa
The international style is characterised by flat roofs, smooth wall surfaces, asymmetrical compositions, curved or cylindrical forms projecting from the overall cubic shape of the building, and portholes or a continuous band of windows rounding the corners. While the pronounced parapet of House Kentridge acts as a subterfuge for its pitched roof, the hood over the windows is an attempt at adapting the modernist style to Durban’s subtropical climate.
