16 The Boulevard, Westway, Durban, South Africa
The glass and steel box, covered by a widely over-sailing tilted roof plane, accommodates a mezzanine level, with public and executive functions overlooking the studio space. One long elevation opens to the best orientation, while the other offers views into the office park, which is located in a nature reserve. The box is lifted off the ground on pilotis, reinforcing the overall character of a space enclosed by a skin, while sheltering the staff parking level beneath. The building offers a precise fit with its site and natural surroundings, without compromising orientation.
