Designed by Payne & Payne Architects and built in 1927, Madressa Arcade is notable for its small scale and bazaar-like space. The arcade is part of the historic core of the Grey Street Precinct and, together with the adjacent, more austere Ajmeri Arcade, links Grey Street with Cathedral Lane and provides an important pedestrian linkage between the city and Berea Road station. The intimate contact between traders with the lightweight galleries of the first floor and connecting bridges overhead contribute to an exciting spatial experience with a distinctly eastern atmosphere.
