Sheikh Allie Vulle Ahmed, more popularly known as Badsha Peer, was one of South Africa’s most hallowed and legendary Indian Saints. Born in India in 1820, he arrived in Durban in 1860 as an indentured labourer. When Soofie Saheb came to Durban in 1895, a year after Badsha Peer’s death, he located his grave and erected a shelter over it so that people could receive blessings and pay their respects in comfort.
